Nevermind - Pearson Triton #450

For more recent work see the Nevermind blog.

8/27, 2006

  • Installed the new GPS mount beside the companionway
  • Finished installing new under-sink tank and faucet
  • Test fit new locker door and bulkhead reinforcement for galley
  • Got new slip! ;^)
  • Changed all three fuel filters; the primary had a fair amount of crud and some water in it - despite regular draining. It's a Fram model that takes the CCS1136 element, and the drain holes in the center post at the bottom of the unit must not be low enough to drain it completely. I changed these filters in the hope that the intermittent knock that happened out at SC was water or other crud in the fuel. It has been one year (and probably 50-60 engine hours) since the previous change. it's obvious that there is a lot of garbage in the fuel tank, but with no cleanout or inspection plate, it's hard to see what to do with it.

8/20, 2006

  • Removed old drawers from starboard galley; cut opening for larger hatch
  • Began installation of new under-sink tank and faucet
  • Organized galley with plastic containers

8/6-7, 2006

  • Replaced head discharge hose (upstream of siphon break) - 2 new AWAB clamps on upper end because it would not seal well - also some sealing compound. Got a good seal.
  • New sheets for the genny - 35' 3/8" Sta-Set, one red, one green.
  • Got 6 gallon water tank & fittings
  • Removed old PVC water line - was full of algae

8/3 2006

  • Mounted nylon eye straps on boom to keep the reefing lines well-stowed. There are three eyes for each line between the cleat at the tack and the block near the clew.
  • Removed various boom/mast hardware - reefing cleats, etc. Lubed with Lanocote; reinstalled.
  • Rebuilt Lewmar #6 halyard winch on mast; one pawl is missing from top set (just under the cover plate). Spare spring in spares box.
  • Replaced turnbuckle body on port side upper (this is the one that had been lost overboard leaving SF Bay)
  • Tuned rig (note: there is a broken strand in the port side upper about 7 feet above the chainplate. The shroud needs replacement.)

7/30, 2006

  • Cut off swage and installed 5/32" Norseman fitting on backstay (filled with polysulfide). This shortened the backstay enough that tension can be raised until the mast taper is straight; this also means the headstay should be tighter so perhaps we'll go to weather better.

6/3, 2006

3/18-19, 2006

  • Began glassing patches on old through-hulls
  • Tested new bilge pump/switch function
  • Removed old sink waste & mounted new
